Can you build retaining walls to landscape a hilly yard?

Heidy Fujikake: Sure! And with absolutely georgeous results. ( I live at the crest of a small hill with both yards sloping away at FRONT= 15-20 degree slope BACK 30-45 degree) My front yard faces south and I have vegetable / herb / & flower gardens planted using a series of retaining walls down the slope. My back slope is wooded with terraced flat sections for the kids to play hide & seek. Here are some examples I found on the web for you and some DIY sites as well.PIC http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/photo/11642603...PIC http://is.gd/7Epo9 (Ignore the name 'Garden Porn' ...totally clean. Depicts many many retaining wall lanscape projects as well as one on the side of a mountain employing a massive retaining wall to make a large play area / entertaining area and space for a swimming pool.)DIY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxJM7xBTfKg

Long Woltjer: You can build different terraces. It depends on how big the yard is and how steep the hill is to find out how m! uch it would take. Our backyard was a hill but it wasnt too steep so we made it into 2 large flat areas.

Joey Mekeel: anything can be done, how much money do you have?

Foster Padgette: I would probably spend several thousandS to create a small 6 or 700 sq foot lawn. Its a gorgeous new house in seattle on a 12,000sqft lot (thats huge in seattle) with no lawn. The house is on the market for 600k.....so it would be a good investment to create a lawn...if actually possible!!

Miguel Densley: Of course you can have retaining walls. I have built them from old New Orleans paving stones, veneer rock, and concrete pavers. It's hard work, but is more than worth it.

Lionel Tanen: yes you can have a retaining wall put in.or you can terrace the yard.
