Do car dealers lease used cars or only new cars?

Jonathon Labonne: No one in their right mind will give a warranty on a high mileage vehicle. Use your head and think about this for a moment. Car dealers are in business to sell cars for profit. Where is the profit in giving a warranty on an old beater car? The cost of these warranty repairs would kill their profits. To compensate, they would need to increase their prices significantly. If you would be willing to pay a significant around more money for an old beater, then why not just buy a newer car with a reasonable amount of miles that is less likely to have problems....Show more

Barton Slisz: I used to work for a dealership and they actually rented cars through a rental company so of course they were used. I would not think that a dealership would rent a new car now due to the insurance and liability.

Brice Greczkowski: There are many cars that are leased used. BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, and i think audi have used lease programs. Many times a new lease work! s out better, but they do in fact lease used cars.

Everette Rovinsky: The lease is usually handled through a leasing company. Most will only lease new cars and the ones truned in after the lease period are either sold retail or sent to an auction as used cars.
