Secondary or Primary PGCE ?

Pasquale Pollet: That's tough! I don't know what a PGCE is... but I assume it's the program at your school in order to get your teaching certificate. Nobody can tell you which to choose - I know I would *hate* to teach high schoolers, but I'm currently doing my primary teaching diploma and I love it. I hate friends who hate teaching little kids but absolutely love teaching teens. So it really depends on you.But on how to make a decision, why don't you write a pros/cons list for each? So losing your spot on the secondary PGCE would be a con for going into primary, but dealing with the attitudes of teens for the next 30+ years would be a con for going into secondary. When do you need to make a decision? Can you take the year off and work with both teens and younger kids in order to come to a full decision? If not, what's your gut instinct? If you really don't like the attitudes of teens, that probably won't change and it could end up really being an issue for you down the ro! ad. Interviewers questioning why you're changing your mind again shouldn't stop you from switching back - this is going to be something you do for the rest of your life, so make the right decision for you in the long-run.That said, I think the interviewers are probably used to people changing their minds! I had constant questions for the administrator of my program for two months before I finally decided to apply! I thought I was bugging her more than anyone else but when I started the program, I found out that most of my classmates had sent daily or weekly emails to her with questions as well! They're used to it and don't/won't hold it against you.Good luck!...Show more
