Is TIVO better than using cable DVR through Cablevision (Optimum Online) and why?

Jacinta Moitoso: I like TiVo better then the cable dvr. but I use windows media center now with 6 tuners and 6000 gigs.you can also use a TiVo with antenna and get free tv.

Gertrude Darke: Optimum Dvr

Oren Eskelsen: This Site Might Help You.RE:Is TIVO better than using cable DVR through Cablevision (Optimum Online) and why?Would like a cheaper and better option to the DVR we have now. Just have a single room DVR, probably costing about $10-$15 a month plus cost of the cable box rental which I think is about $7/month. Should I get TIVO instead? Would like to get multi-room capability also. Please state the reasons......Show more

Buster Buchko: For the best answers, search on this site https://shorturl.im/ax7gKThe only thing i will say is they both do about the same thing here is the prob tivo breaks you own it you pay to have it shipped you pay to have it fixed you wait for the thing to come back in the mail your without it they both have a monthly fee! however if the dvr breaks you call the cable company they bring you a new 500 dollar machine your back up and running at absolutely no cost to you hmmm not rocket science or wait maybe you can call the tivo man lol good luck...Show more

Jacinta Moitoso: I have replaced 4 optimum boxes with a Bolt and 3 minis. cost was $701 including taxes. 4 boxes at 7.80 = 31.20 a month + 12.95 for dvr going up to 16.95. 1.50 multi box plus 5.00 taxes total savings 54.15 a month x 12 $649 first year. the TiVo first you service id free then $150 per year so the second year your savings if for the boxes ,dvr ,taxes and the difference of the dvr cost about $50 month. So after 1 year and 2 months the Tivo is paid for (ROI). After the 14 mos you continue to save about a $50 a month savings....Show more

Anton Waln: Tivo is tons better than any DVR from any cable company but....it's not cheaper. First, you have to buy the Tivo unit and then you have to sign up for the Tivo service w! hich is $15/mo, or $300 for a one time fee for a lifetime subs! cription (lifetime of the Tivo - not your lifetime.) And you'll still need to rent a cable card from Cablevision ($2/mo)So you're going to pay about $600-700 up front, plus $2/mo. At that price the Tivo won't become cheaper than renting the cable box/DVR from Cablevision for nearly 3 years. Now, if you're pretty sure you're going to stay with cable TV for 3 years or more, then go for it. Keep in mind the Tivo can work with cable TV or a plain old antenna, but NOT satellite TV (Dish Network, DirecTV.)...Show more

Foster Koopmann: PoohBearPenguin has it correct but there is one thing he did not mention. Tivo with lifetime service has a good resale value. Once you have decided you no longer need the Tivo for whatever reason, you can sell it for a minimum of $200-$300. They generally last a long time. I have one from 10 years ago and it still works. It isn't the fanciest receiver but it still works. You can even put in a larger hard drive for more recording space if y! ou want to do that.
