Jonathan Schlussel: Your definition is fine, but the small business I think of is the one that hires between 25 to 30 people. The one I helped build.
Marco Stolarz: yes, that small business bill gates started is an example.even that small business called Avon, they only pay people commission on what they earn,,,,,McDonalds started one burger at a time, and now employs the youth, the students, and single moms who have too much dignity to be strippers,,, along with retirees who need to supplement their income,I hope to be a small business one day, and the only employee, if I make enough to survive, I will consider it a success although I am hoping for more....Show more
Matt Gerdeman: We arent talking about your parents paying you tio mow the lawn dude. Next time you leave your parents basement, look around you, there are small businesses everywhere. Your local non-starbucks coffee shop, your local non-chain deli, nail salons, food markets, restaurants, shipping! services, retail stores, bars.........................caterers, specialty cake stores, donut shops, gas stations, artists, mechanic shops, car wash's.......small businessesthat is small business....Show more
Ulysses Failey: seriously? without small business our country goes away. which is exactly where we will be headed with the tax increases to be imposed.and, with no incentive to thrive, the american dream dies. thanks for the taxes.
Truman Biby: So that's your reasoning for having the government come in with their jack booted thugs and taking everything people have? Good one and nice try Libboy.
Arden Strachn: No. Small business IS the upwards mobility of capitalism. Many fail but often had little money in them to begin with, and the owner tries another idea. Barriers to entry by small business are one of the huge problems of NAFTA CAFTA and the speicial interest rule in Washington DC. THAT is what creates wage disparity - the idea that only t! he wealthy have any other choice how to make a living.
M! anie Labat: Your definition of small business is rather unrealistic; the Small Business Administration defines small business as less then one hindred workers and that is the definition used when talking about small businesses. They have an initial high failure rate but they are also responsible for the majority of the jobs and job growth with the country. If you wish to ignore that and use a self designed definition that is good for you but it is not honest. The small ice cream store near my house started last year by a neighbor employees about fifteen and I know of very few businesses which would have just two employees? Small retail shops have more then that since they use different people to cover different hours. Is the saying small business is two or less people and all fail so do nothing a mantra from your leader trying to minimize the importance of Small Business? The problem with your question is that you used a definition of small business you made up to sui! t your point instead of a standard definition used within both government and business. Since they provide more job growth then larger companies they are extremely relevant to the current situation and economists will tell you the same thing....Show more
Ronny Nowzari: Well, how do democrats define a small business?
Wilmer Skidmore: 70% of all new jobs are created by small businesses, so having policies that encourage small businesses is vital to the overal health of the economy. Some of those small businesses friendly policies include lowering the corporate tax rate that is currently the second highest in the developed world. Another would be not raising the income taxes on individuals even though it has become so popular with democrats these days. A large percentage of small businesses are LLCs and they are taxed on the individual rate. Other positives could be giving tax credits to invest in new equipment and/or hire new employees. Those have been histo! ric GOP goals and they have fallen out of favor due to the recent class! warfare movement the Dems used in the 08' election. The real question is, does class warefare create new jobs?...Show more
Jackson Esmiol: A small business is a business that is independently owned and operated, with a small number of employees and relatively low volume of sales. You need to quit trying to be a troll, you asswipe. You're not good at it.
Cedric Grimstead: Bitter half: You dodged the question, which does not surprise me. I just gave you my definition of a small business. Wake up.
Sharri Scalley: Small business account for 2/3 of the total jobs created in the US.Obama has lost 2 million jobs in 2 months you dumb f u c k!
Keven Drumgole: Lets see.........contractors who build homes, roads, infrastructure, plumbing, electrical, lawn services, etc......restaurants, retail, accounting services, financial services, home care services, farmers, day cares, etc.....You are just another Democrat that has no clue what a "small" business is.
Oren Eskelsen: Small businesses employ around 75% of the people working. With just that simple statistic, I would say that small businesses are important to the economy.Don't forget, Apple Computers was started in a garage.
Toshia Metzker: Maybe you need to get out more- Why are picking on Republicans- ? The Democrats are destroying America right now! Get some facts ASAP!
Troy Staton: These stats are from the Small Business Owners Association. Most small businesses (90%) employ less than 20 people yet they employ over 50% of the workforce. There are about 25 million of them in the US. 90% of the new jobs created in the US come from small businesses. 40% of the new better paying high tech jobs come from small businesses. You are correct about one thing. The failure rate for small businesses is higher than large cap businesses. That is usually because of lack of capitalization. But look at how many small businesses have started small and then grown in ! to big big business. Which ones are going to make it big and which ones! aren't? It's a crap shoot. But when a small business really hits, they hit big, and more than compensate for the ones that didn't.We hear about all the money being spent to save 3 million jobs. Think about this. Small businesses are in many cases undercapitalized which is the reason they go under when the economy has a downturn. When a small business goes under it's not downsizing, it's close the doors and all jobs are lost. Even Obama is now talking about $25 billion for small business investment. Small business is where the inovations and invention comes from. That's what made this country great and grow. $25 billion is chump change and after thought. What if just the money that went to AIG wer pumped into small businesses? How many new jobs would that have created? What about if the money from TARP were used? How about TARP and the Stimulus?Do you know why small business don't get the attention in Congress they should? Small businesses don't contribute a lot to campai! gn funds. They aren't like GM, Chrysler, AIG, Citi, or Unions. They aren't hooked on politics. They don't have time to play games. They are too busy trying to stay alive and grow. 25 million companies that fight to survive every day. That is something that isn't too big to fail. That is something the government had better not let fail....Show more
Lashawn Zabarkes: Your definition of small business is completely incorrect.Wake up yourself.
Alexandria Popik: You dont know jack.Small business is considered under 100 workers.I have 30 employees & have been in business for 27 years. What time does the short bus pick you up for school?I also would be willing to bet they all make more money than you do....Show more
Leisa Brodnex: Wow, considering that the majority of Americans are employed by small business, it seems you are out of touch. Look in your phone book. There are plenty of different types of small business, ranging from law firms, lawn services, tech! nology start-up companies, spin-ff companies, mechanic shops, real esta! te offices, tanning salons, hair salons, daycares, restaurants, etc... Seriously, this question is ridiculous...I could go on with small businesses all day. People need money to start up small businesses. I have several friends with small businesses, and they are all hard-working upper-middle class people. Increasing their tax burdens would drastically reduce future employment opportunities. Also, I work at a small business. We have ~ 50 employees and currently receive excellent benefits....Show more
Gale Hartt: Small businesses from all aspects are generally how all businesses start out. I can not think of many that come in hiring 100K/year and hiring 60,000 employees. The 1 or 2 employees is at one end of the spectrum but many start off with a few hundred jobs. The $/hr will vary greatly depending on location and business type obviously.I think many people would be glad to have an opportunity to work at any job recently. And yes small businesses have a high degre! e of failure withing their first 2-5 years, normally because of operational expenses and getting the niche of the area is difficult for people....Show more
Sherrill Botting: You must live in bubble or something...80% of ALL private sector jobs are small business, such as car dealerships, Insurance agents, construction companies, and dry cleaners to name a few. You personally may only qualify for an $8.50 an hour job but most small business jobs are career oriented and not just slop sink jobs, as you Leftist Libs characterize private sector or non governmental jobs. I work for a small business and make a good living...it must just be dum dum democrats that figure government should provide for them from cradle to grave...(with confiscated money) and we all know if you libs had your way..we wouldn't even need baby cradles since they prefer killing babies to raising them as self reliant Americans... GO FIGURE!...Show more
Julee Lanham: I have one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! I own a survey company and I employee about 10 people when times are go! od.All make about 10 an hour to start and my college educated make about 65,000 a year.I supply insurance. One Kid I have has been with me for 5 years and is making $20.00 an hour and going to College to get that better salary and to do what you might ask????Start a business of his own one day that hopeful will employ more!!!!! This is what capitalism is all about !!!!So what on earth is not really relevant to our current situation!!!!You just need to look around and do your homework before you open your mouth. If you are making 8.50 an hour than you did not go to College and most likely did not finish high school. And that is no ones fault but your own.Even today there are ways to go with Government Grants and Loans...Heck have a couple kids and get a grant.....Show more
Erica Bottaro: Well, in my area, we have had a business that started out small years ago. Ever heard of Cobalt boats? They have for years been a thriving and growing business, until recently, they we! re forced to lay off 200 of their employees. So no this is not just a talking point as you so candidly stated, this is affecting real lives, real people, something we republicans DO care about!
Devon Kalberer: my husband had a nice one going, now GONE.
Alisa Kaleiwahea: Here is a clue for you since you appear to be clueless.Every business that is large and employs many workers of various wages, STARTED OUT SMALL. They go under about 40% of the time (much worse odds in Obama's America). Try and remember that Microsoft started in Bill Gates' garage....Show more
Jude Kennelly: As a small business owner, I have five full time, one part time and two seasonal employees. I pay more than minimum wage -- I don't offer a benefits package and I don't hire union. I started just over 4 years ago with my last $5K. Last year, I pulled just under $100K.
Marielle Hedeiros: 97% of all new jobs are created by small businesses. It's that simple.
